Benefits of bovine colostrum on fecal quality in recently weaned puppies

To determine the gastrointestinal benefits from bovine colostrum (which is produced after giving birth by the mother's mammary gland) in recently weaned puppies, who often suffer diarrhea, this study was designed though a placebo controlled randomized methodology with 70 puppies ranging 40 and 50 days of age. 37 puppies were fed daily for 10 days with the standard puppy food enriched with 0.5 g of BC powder, and the remaining group of 33 puppies’ diet was enriched with 0.5g of skim milk powder daily.

Throughout the trial, individual fecal scores were taken and then analysed, finding that the group of puppies with the BC supplement has lower fecal scores (P <0.05), indicating an improvement in fecal quality vs the control group with skim milk powder.
